Job description
Packaging Quality Control
- Conduct in-process quality control, such as pH, Brix (sugar content), and microbiological testing where applicable, to ensure production meets food safety standards.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative testing on preform moulds and closures for attributes like pH, carbonation retention, and sensory qualities. Perform age studies and shelf-life assessments to preserve product integrity.
Routine Inspections
- Perform inspections and tests on preforms and closures, including measurements of height, weight, neck finish dimensions, torque on capping heads, and visual checks for defects.
Finished Product Evaluation
- Inspect preforms for defects such as nicks, warping, or dimensional inaccuracies that could affect blow-moulding and sealing.
- Test closures for ovality, liner integrity, seal strength, and application torque to prevent leaks or tampering.
Verification
- Verify that preforms, closures, and related materials conform to specifications, recording batch numbers for traceability and reporting any non-conformances to supervisors.
Investigate quality issues
- Investigate quality issues, implement corrective and preventive actions, and maintain detailed records of inspections, deviations, and audits.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with production teams to resolve quality problems, support continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure hygiene compliance in the facility.
Laboratory and Equipment Maintenance
- Monitor equipment calibration, perform packaging analysis, and authorize production startups after verifying results.
- Clean and sanitize lab areas to prevent cross-contamination, following sanitation standards.
Auditing and Reporting:
- Conduct internal audits, inventory controls, and deviation investigations.
- Assist in root cause analysis for customer complaints or internal deviations
- Prepare reports on quality metrics, escalate issues to management, and recommend corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
· Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure adherence to food safety regulations, including GFSI-recognized standards, and participate in supplier validations.
- Support environmental monitoring and waste reduction initiatives. Outputs include daily test reports, audit summaries, and quality dashboards that contribute to zero-defect targets and efficient production runs.
Adherence to the Quality, Food Safety, Health, Safety & Environmental Standards
- Adherence to Standards: Ensure strict adherence to Quality, Food, Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards.
- Enforcement: Enforce all food safety and health regulations, policies, and requirements at all times to guarantee a secure work environment.
- Personal Hygiene: Maintain exceptional personal hygiene as per the organization’s code of conduct.
- Contamination Control: Raise awareness about potential physical product contamination and implement control measures to prevent it.
- Health and Safety Measures: Take reasonable precautions to prevent health and safety hazards. Follow the prescribed incident reporting procedure in case of accidents.
- Knowledge and Compliance: Stay updated with relevant business information, policies, processes, and procedures. Enforce compliance with legislative and statutory requirements, as well as GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Training: Attend and enforce the implementation of learnings from training sessions related to Quality, Food Safety, and Health and Safety.
- Housekeeping: Maintain high levels of cleanliness and orderliness within the work environment.
Work on rotating shifts to cover production needs, including overtime as required for operational demands.
Minimum requirements
- National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, or a related field.
- Certifications in HACCP, ISO 22000, or GFSI schemes are advantageous.
- 2-5 years in quality control within the beverage industry, preferably in soft drinks manufacturing with exposure to preform blow-moulding and closure facilities.
- Hands-on experience with testing instruments and processes.
- Proficiency in analytical testing microbial sampling, and statistical process control.
- Familiarity with software for data logging and reporting.
